Reporting Concerns
If you are concerned about a child's welfare or worried they are being abused, you can access help from the Children’s Advice and Support Service (CASS) by completing a ‘Request for Support’ form via the Birmingham Children’s Trust website, ensuring that the Right Help Right Time Threshold Guidance is followed.
Alternatively, you can seek advice from the Designated Safeguarding Manager in your agency or/and the Childrens Advice and Support Service (CASS) on: 0121 303 1888 (option 2, option 2).
(CASS operates between 8.45am - 5.15pm Monday to Thursday, and 8.45am - 4:15pm on Fridays.)
Outside these hours, please call the Emergency Duty Team (EDT) on: 0121 675 4806
In an emergency where a child’s safety is at immediate risk of significant harm contact the police on 999.
If you are unsure the West Midlands Regional Safeguarding Procedures Manual will be able to help guide, you or the Birmingham ‘Right Help, Right Time’ Threshold Guidance which tells you which types of services a family may need to get support.
To report concerns or allegations against people who work or volunteer with children please contact the Birmingham’s Local Authority Designated Officer.
You should contact the LADO within 1 working day of an incident arising where an allegation or concern appears that a person who works with children, has:
- Behaved in a way that has harmed a child or may have harmed a child;
- Possibly committed a criminal offence against or related to a child;
- Behaved in a way that indicates they may pose a risk to children;
- Behaved or may have behaved in a way that indicates they may not be suitable to work with children.
If you are unsure about the above thresholds, then please discuss this with your Safeguarding Lead or Manager first.
